Avengers domesticity just warms my heart. Also the fact that Tony was just trying to help Steve and everybody knows it.
#feel free to add some sad tony/steve fic
feel free to add…well okay.
In Times of War
It wasn’t supposed to go like that.
Steve threw another punch and hit the bag. It ripped a little, but it swung back. He thought back to the moment. Tony showing off, as usual. Flying really high, trying to prove something. Why did he turn the suit off. What was he trying to prove. He thought he was about to boast about the fast power up… for the first time, Jarvis had been slow. Tony hit the ground before Steve even knew what happened. The mask came off and…
The bag swung toward him again and he couldn’t hold back this time. The bag broke off the chain and into the corner. The way the suit was cracked, broken, empty. The life gone from the suit and the man within it…
He just stared. His eyes stared at a wall, but all he could see was Tony. Tony and everything that never happened. The way Tony made him forget about the time he lost. Tony was so now and pay attention to me and the way he absorbed your attention. He barely gave Steve time to remember going down in that plane and the promise he made but couldn’t keep. But without Tony, all the walls fell down. And this time, there was more behind them.
It wasn’t just the dance he never made, but this time it was all the times he wouldn’t be at Tony’s side with the Avengers, the times Tony wouldn’t be flying him into battle, wouldn’t be forcing drinks down his throat, wouldn’t be laughing as Steve turned down the girls that were all over him at bars, wouldn’t ever get to hear what Steve always wanted to say.
And the worst of it was, it was his fault. Steve was the one who suggested they go out together, maybe Tony got a little ridiculous, but Tony was always ridiculous. It could’ve been another night at the bars, but Steve wanted to do something different. And God forbid Tony say no. Tony was always up for whatever Steve wanted to do. He went along with things sarcastically, but Steve could tell there was a sort of sincerity behind it. Real feeling behind that mischevious smirk and spotlight eyes.
Eyes that would never shine again.
